Frankie, Lola, and Friends, a dog rescue organization, recently received a call about a group of dogs living in poor conditions in Los Angeles, California. Among them was a mother dog, chained and visibly underweight, while her puppies were living in squalor.
Lisa, a representative from the rescue, visited the property and was welcomed in by the dogs’ owner. What she discovered was unsettling—the neglected state of the dogs, especially the mother, was alarming. Despite her situation, the mother dog greeted the newcomers with a wagging tail and a warm demeanor.

Recognizing he was unable to properly care for so many animals, the owner collected the puppies and handed them over to Lisa. However, when it came to the mother dog, he was initially reluctant to let her go. As shown in a video by The Dodo, he insisted she would stay, pointing to the poor, chained dog.
Lisa, determined not to leave her behind, loaded the puppies into her van before gently persuading the owner about the benefits of letting the mother dog go. She praised him for his decision to give up the puppies and offered suggestions to improve the mother dog’s quality of life, such as getting her spayed, vaccinated, and providing a comfortable resting place. She even offered blankets and a bed for the dog.

Moved by Lisa’s compassion and care, the owner eventually changed his mind. “Open the car,” he instructed, unchaining the mother dog and allowing her to be taken to safety.
While the living conditions were dire, it was clear the owner had good intentions but was overwhelmed by the responsibility. Lisa’s approach of kindness and understanding demonstrated that a little support can make a significant difference.

Thanks to this combined effort of compassion, all the dogs received the necessary care. The puppies found loving permanent homes, placed with families who would cherish them.
As for the mother dog, she was moved to a foster home where she began to recover, gaining around 15 pounds in just two weeks. Her renewed health allowed her lively and affectionate personality to emerge.
