Twin Baby Elephants Delight Visitors at Pinnawala Orphanage

The Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage, known for its dedication to rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and injured elephants, has welcomed a pair of twin baby elephants.

These adorable newcomers are the offspring of an elephant previously rehabilitated by the orphanage.

Elephants typically have a single calf at a time, with twins being rare, happening in only about one percent of births. Fortunately, both twins and their mother are thriving and healthy.

From the start, the twins have displayed vibrant personalities. They are comfortable with their caretakers, often engaging in playful teasing and interactions, all under the watchful eye of their mother.

The bond between the staff and the elephants is evident, with the animals frequently seeking cuddles and attention.

The orphanage staff’s deep affection for the elephants is clear, and the animals reciprocate it. This mutual love is part of what makes the orphanage so special.

Eventually, when the twins are old enough to survive independently, they will be released back into the wild.
