Stray Cat Companions Finally Find a Home Together After Years on the Streets

Published on

For at least two years, a pair of stray cats—a brown tabby and an orange tabby—were frequently spotted wandering a neighborhood together.

Despite the care and attention of a local couple who regularly left out food for them, the cats remained wary and kept their distance.

When animal rescuer Julie noticed the brown tabby in particularly poor health, with his coat severely matted and inadequate for the cold weather, she decided to intervene.

She began talking to neighbors, discovering the couple who had been feeding him and learning about his orange companion. Realizing the bond between the two, Julie adjusted her rescue plan to save them together.

With help from her colleague Micheline, Julie set a humane trap, and they successfully captured both cats.

Denis and Louise, the couple who had been feeding them, welcomed the cats into their home and provided a quiet, safe space for them to settle in.

They also arranged for their initial veterinary care, where the cats were surprisingly calm during exams and grooming, especially when the brown tabby’s fur was trimmed to remove painful knots.

Chatons Orphelins Montreal, a local rescue group, shared the story of Chambertain, the brown tabby, who had once been a house pet until he ended up as a stray and was no longer wanted by his previous owners.

During his time on the streets, he met Voltaire, the orange tabby, and they quickly became inseparable. The two cats were seen together constantly, looking out for one another.

With proper food and attention, both Chambertain and Voltaire began to flourish. Their coats became smooth and shiny, and they grew healthy and relaxed in their new environment.

Throughout the day, they display their bond with affectionate head rubs and cozying up side by side. “They find comfort in each other,” shared the team, who describes their relationship as both beautiful and resilient.

Chambertain and Voltaire are gentle and peaceful by nature, thoroughly enjoying the comforts of their indoor life.

Voltaire has become especially affectionate, frequently seeking out cuddles and warm spots for naps, while Chambertain loves to play and be brushed, even rolling over for more attention.

Their bond remains strong, and Chambertain is particularly protective, staying close to Voltaire and waiting for him when he goes to the vet.
