The sanctuary accepts dogs from shelters and those whose previous owners are moving into nursing homes or have passed away. Once dogs arrive at House with a Heart, they receive lifetime care without worrying about relocation.

Caring for these senior pets is costly, especially when their medical needs are significant. For example, Spencer, one of the residents, required approximately $8,000 for surgeries. Thanks to generous supporters, Spencer received the treatment he needed.

Sher Polvinale begins each day at 6 a.m., preparing dog meals. Volunteers, arriving at 11 a.m., assist with various tasks, from gardening to administering medication.

Initially, integrating volunteers was challenging, but they have since become an integral part of the sanctuary, making daily operations smoother.

Harriette Sackler is crucial in emergencies, including transporting dogs when necessary. Her most heart-wrenching responsibility is being with the dogs during their final moments, ensuring they are never alone as they pass away.

House with a Heart focuses on providing a secure, loving environment for senior dogs, allowing them to live out their final days surrounded by care and compassion.
