Scarlett Johansson found herself in an unsettlingly authentic scenario while working alongside Anthony Hopkins in the 2012 film “Hitchcock.”
Portraying Janet Leigh in the movie, which delved into the creation of Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic masterpiece “Psycho,” Johansson faced a nerve-wracking experience.

In one scene, Hopkins, embodying Hitchcock, rehearsed the infamous shower sequence with Johansson.
Recalling the moment’s intensity, Johansson revealed, “You have got to be brave, get into the shower, and face Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock jabbing you in the face with a 12-inch kitchen knife.”

Despite Hopkins being described as a “pussycat” by Johansson, she confessed to feeling terrified, attributing it partly to her childhood memories of watching “Silence of the Lambs” too many times. This sense of fear lingered, making the scene’s execution challenging for her.
The shoot presented logistical challenges, with only a day to capture the scene. Concerns about water usage and preserving modesty heightened tensions among the crew. However, like her character Janet Leigh, Johansson remained unfazed by such matters.
Interestingly, Johansson’s involvement in the film took an unexpected turn during her initial meeting with director Sacha Gervais and Anthony Hopkins.

What began as a discussion about her role swiftly transformed into an impromptu audition when Johansson joined their rehearsal for the peephole scene. Within a week, she confirmed her decision to be part of the project.
Scarlett Johansson’s encounter with Anthony Hopkins’ portrayal of Hitchcock, wielding a 12-inch kitchen knife, left a lasting impression on the actress, reflecting the intricacies of her role and the challenges of recreating a cinematic classic.
