Johansson co-founded The Outset with Brooklyn-based entrepreneur Kate Foster. This new brand joins recent celebrity-led skincare lines, like Jennifer Aniston’s Lolavie and Ariana Grande’s r.e.m. beauty.

Posts on The Outset’s Instagram highlight its mission to simplify skincare, aiming to be “the start of you” focusing on “clean and effective” products.

The campaign message emphasizes a “return to the essential” and an uncomplicated approach to beauty.

In a brief video posted on the brand’s page, Johansson expressed that The Outset will be “truly universal and accessible,” designed for everyone.

In her Instagram post, Co-founder Foster shared her experience meeting Johansson two years ago through industry connections, describing Johansson’s vision as “a reliable, everyday skin system that was clean, elevated, and as effortless as slipping on your favorite white tee.”

The brand was developed during the COVID-19 pandemic, with both founders determined to maintain “heart and intention” throughout the process.

One of the first promotional images, a close-up of Johansson in an artistic black-and-white shot, even received a humorous comment from her husband, comedian and SNL star Colin Jost.

Jost joked, “Is this the best way to contact you? I’m starting a similar brand called ‘Part of a Face’ and would love to use this photo. Thanks.”
