Scarlett Johansson, known for her role in “Black Widow,” is set to take on her first leading role in a television series with “Just Cause.”

Based on the 1992 novel by John Katzenbach, the show, produced by Amazon Studios, marks Johansson’s venture into the TV landscape as both a star and an executive producer.

Interestingly, Johansson has a previous connection to the story. The novel was previously adapted into a 1995 film, where she played the role of Katie, the daughter of Harvard professor Paul Armstrong, portrayed by Sean Connery.

Now, Johansson steps into a new character, Madison “Madi” Cowart, a Florida newspaper reporter investigating the claims of innocence made by a death row inmate she is assigned to cover.

The series has received a straight-to-series order from Amazon Studios and is being developed by Warner Bros. TV, with Christy Hall as the writer.

Johansson’s production company, These Pictures, is collaborating with Warner Bros. TV on the production.

Alongside Johansson, executive producers include Jonathan Lia, Keenan Flynn, and Christy Hall. Zara Duff, head of TV at These Pictures, oversees the project.

Recently concluding her journey as Natasha Romanoff in Marvel’s “Black Widow,” Johansson is currently involved in other projects, including “Project Artemis” alongside Channing Tatum and the upcoming Wes Anderson film, “Asteroid City,” and “My Mother’s Wedding” directed by Kristin Scott Thomas.

While her time as Black Widow might have ended, Johansson’s ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) continue. Marvel boss Kevin Feige has hinted at another Marvel project involving Johansson as a producer, keeping the details under wraps for now.
