A 20-day-old puppy was discovered abandoned on a mountainside near Chanis, Panama, in a fragile state. The young pup was infested with flies, lice, and fleas, and her body was covered in sores.
When rescuers found her, she was barely moving, breathing with difficulty, and keeping her eyes tightly shut.
The puppy spent an entire day at the Veterinary Paws & Footprints clinic in Chanis, receiving checks every two hours. Weighing only 0.66 kg (1.45 lbs), she needed several injectable medications every few hours.

Her inability to eat caused her blood sugar levels to drop, leading to the necessity for a blood transfusion—a painful procedure, especially for such a small puppy.
Despite the difficulty, the veterinarian recommended several transfusions as her anemia was severe and not improving, even with the right nutrition.
These efforts showed some improvement. The next day, due to the transfusion, her hemoglobin rose from 3.0 to 4.5, her platelets increased from 28 to 84, and her hematocrit went from 12 to 16.

This progress allowed the puppy, named Amor, to be discharged from the hospital.
Over the following days, Amor grew calmer and stopped crying at night. She remained hospitalized every morning for observation and treatment.
In the afternoons, volunteers spent time playing with her, which helped boost her spirits and improve her mental health.

A week later, Amor started eating Proplan canned puppy food—though not much—but her appetite was growing. To aid her recovery, she received water and malt extract, which is rich in iron, every two hours.
Though her physical condition is still weak, Amor’s heart is strong. Her wounds began to heal, causing itching under the bandages—a good sign of recovery.
Despite all challenges, this determined little puppy continues to fight for her life, showing her resilience and will for a second chance.
