In Kalawewa National Park, Sri Lanka, a young elephant was recently spotted enjoying a playful moment by climbing onto its larger friend’s back, captured in charming photographs.

The scene unfolded in the heart of Sri Lanka’s central region, where the calf clambered onto its companion wearing an evident cheeky grin.

Pathum Bandara, the photographer behind these delightful images, noted, “Baby elephants are incredibly playful. I saw these two having fun while observing a herd of over 200 elephants. The little one looked mischievous as he tried to get a free ride on his friend’s back, occasionally glancing towards me.”

The striking photograph features the baby elephant leaping onto its buddy’s back, a moment Bandara described as a playful ‘free ride.’ The young calf rested against its larger, tired friend until it was gently nudged off.

Despite the antics, the rest of the herd remained unperturbed. Kalawewa National Park, known for its large population of elephants, serves as a sanctuary for these majestic creatures.
