A tiny tabby kitten, only two weeks old, was brought to a Florida veterinary clinic with significant injuries. The kitten, later named Duck, had already lost both her front legs due to severe damage.
Despite the mystery surrounding her accident, Duck showed an incredible spirit, determined to thrive against all odds. Duck’s journey of resilience began when she was introduced to the clinic by a compassionate individual.
Her story was shared on Instagram by her eventual owner: “She arrived at my sister’s clinic… fortunately, an exceptional surgeon was ready to save her and performed a double amputation.”
It is speculated that she might have been trying to warm up in a car engine bay.
After her successful surgery, Duck needed a nurturing foster environment to regain her strength and learn to navigate life with two legs.
Her foster parent, who quickly became her permanent guardian, lovingly recounted, “She adapted to her new life swiftly. In no time, she was trotting around the house on her own.”
This quick adaptation and fierce determination captured her foster family’s hearts, making them decide to adopt her permanently. Duck effortlessly integrated into a lively household that included three dogs, another cat, and six hens.
Despite her physical challenges, she learned to get around expertly, using her tail for balance, which earned her the playful nickname Purrasic Duck due to her resemblance to a T-Rex.
Initially, it was thought that a set of wheels and a harness would aid her mobility, but Duck showed a strong preference for using her own two legs.
Now six months old, Duck’s family believes she’s the fastest kitten on two legs! Her tenacity extends beyond mere survival; she fearlessly follows the much larger household dogs, learning tricks and taking part in their antics.
This has led her to believe she’s part dog herself.
