The day begins with Khanyisa wrapped in warm blankets, thanks to her handler, who wants to shield her from the chilly morning air.
Once the blankets are removed, Khanyisa playfully nudges her handler with her head and tries to grab the blankets with her trunk as if asking to keep them.
Excitement builds as Khanyisa spots another handler and makes a beeline for the herd with her large ears flapping. She eagerly follows Lundi, one of the female elephants, sticking close to her new friend.
Throughout the day, Khanyisa joins the herd in foraging. During a break, one of the handlers provides her with a bottle while Lundi and the herd’s matriarch stay close by. Although Lundi doesn’t produce milk, Khanyisa finds comfort in staying close to her.
As the day draws closer, a rainbow appears in the sky, signaling a hopeful end to Khanyisa’s joyful first day with her new family.
