Nestled in the heart of Tsavo, Ithumba becomes a striking haven during the green season. This period marks a dramatic shift from a dry landscape to a lush, vibrant environment, earning Ithumba its reputation as the “jewel in the crown” of Tsavo East National Park.

As the seasons change, the vibrant colors of nature reappear. Weaver birds build their nests, signaling the arrival of rain.

Once-dry earth is now enriched with moisture, transforming into a vivid green expanse filled with buzzing insects and the lively antics of vervet monkeys. This renewal creates a dynamic and stunning display of nature’s resilience.

During this rainy season, Ithumba’s orphaned elephants revel in the transformation. They eagerly splash in puddles and nibble on fresh shoots.

The joy of the rain is evident as they frolic in the water and roll on the wet ground, their excitement palpable.

The arrival of the rains also attracts wild elephants to Ithumba, drawn by the promise of water and nourishment.

A heartwarming addition to this season’s festivities is the arrival of a new calf named Wema, born on November 17.

Wema, whose name means “goodness” in Swahili, was introduced to Ithumba by Wendi, a wild-living orphan.
