In a tale of resilience and determination, Dololo, a young elephant, has emerged victorious over a challenging past marked by starvation, parasites, and infected eyes.
Initially discovered in a dire state – malnourished, battling parasites, and with infected eyes – Dololo’s remarkable transformation over nine months has turned him into a lively and captivating young bull.
Dololo’s journey began in September 2018, following a distressing incident where he fell into a slippery waterhole on ranch lands outside Tsavo East National Park.
Despite the challenging circumstances, Dololo’s strength and survival instincts prevailed, as he managed to stay afloat for over twelve hours by using his trunk as a makeshift snorkel.
The rescue team, displaying unwavering dedication, successfully extracted Dololo from the waterhole, making him our responsibility for rehabilitation.
Though not without hurdles, his recovery path witnessed a gradual improvement through round-the-clock care, proper nutrition, and medical assistance.
While Dololo’s rehabilitation continues, his story serves as a poignant reminder of our role in wildlife preservation.
His struggle has resonated with many, emphasizing the importance of protecting these majestic creatures.
Dololo’s rescue began when the community spotted him, leading to the swift response of KWS rangers and Dr. Poghon, the KWS Veterinary Officer.
Transported to the Trust’s Nursery in Nairobi via SWT’s helicopter, Dololo’s delicate condition necessitated a quick and stress-free rescue.
Upon arrival at the Nursery, Dololo faced numerous challenges, including severe eye infections, parasites, and significant weight loss.
The dedicated team prioritized his recovery, administering intravenous fluids and closely monitoring his well-being.
Overcoming collapses and months of suffering, Dololo transformed from a skeletal figure into a healthy, vibrant elephant.
Almost a year later, Dololo’s incredible journey unfolds at the Nursery. Plump cheeks and flawless skin have replaced his once fragile appearance, marking a heartening transformation.
As he adapts to his surroundings, Dololo radiates happiness, becoming an affectionate member of our human family.
His triumph over adversity is a testament to his tenacious will to survive, and we take joy in nurturing this extraordinary young elephant, anticipating his evolution into a stunning and powerful bull for the untamed wilderness.
