Certain tales have the ability to touch our hearts profoundly, and Althea’s journey is undeniably one of them. Discovered wandering the streets of Las Vegas, Nevada, this remarkable dog had faced unimaginable neglect.
At seven years old, Althea weighed a mere twenty pounds, a testament to her previous owner’s severe mistreatment and neglect, which often left her without food.
Fortunately, the attentive local community noticed Althea’s dire condition and gave her a chance at a new, respectable life. Vegas Pet Rescue Project (VPRP) in Las Vegas stepped in to adopt Althea after being alerted by a nearby shelter.
Upon her arrival at VPRP, her caretakers were astonished by her state. Althea was a striking example of the harsh realities and neglect many animals face.
They immediately recognized that she had suffered greatly—at twenty-three pounds, she was well below the expected sixty pounds for her breed and age.
Althea’s story quickly gained national attention, leaving many shocked that such cruelty could befall an innocent animal.
Reporter Victoria Sakha shared on Facebook the sad tale of Althea, a pit bull discovered in dire condition, clearly lacking proper nutrition for a long time. Alarmingly, despite her visible plight, hundreds of people had walked past her without responding.
The VPRP community took a stand to uncover the identity of those responsible for Althea’s suffering, even offering a growing reward, which quickly reached tens of thousands of dollars, for information leading to justice.
People in Las Vegas and beyond were unified in their quest to right this wrong for Althea.
