When rescuers discovered her at the roadside, the pitbull was in an appalling state. She was alarmingly thin, with her ribs and bones clearly visible beneath her coat, reflecting a life of neglect and hardship.
Her past was one of exploitation, where she was repeatedly used for breeding. Once she was no longer profitable, she was abandoned, left to survive on her own.
The poor dog was infested with ticks and fleas, had mutilated ears, and one of her paws was missing—signs of the severe abuse she had suffered over the years.

Rescuers swiftly transported her to a veterinary hospital, where the medical staff was taken aback by her emaciated condition. It seemed almost miraculous that she had managed to stay alive.
The veterinarians concluded that she had been used as a “kennel matrix,” a term for dogs continuously bred until they are no longer capable.
Her torn ears and amputated paw, likely caused by a hunting trap, were among her many injuries. Additionally, her teeth were damaged, likely a result of desperate attempts to escape by chewing metal fences during her confinement.
Learning more about Iris’s history only deepened the heartache. She had been caught in a relentless cycle of abuse, bred until exhaustion and then discarded.

Her severely damaged teeth were a grim symbol of her struggles, an attempt to prevent her from resisting during forced mating encounters.
Alongside her physical wounds, she bore deep emotional scars from a life devoid of love and care. Fighting for survival, she had been denied freedom and happiness.
Remarkably, despite all she had endured, Iris remained a gentle and loving creature. Her kind demeanor touched her carers. Despite her past, she was open to receiving affection, showcasing her continued belief in the goodness of people.
Her determination to survive was extraordinary. While her body healed, Iris also needed emotional recovery from the years of trauma. It would take time and patience for her to rebuild trust.
As Iris’s health improved, those caring for her decided she needed a new beginning. She was given the name “Iris” to symbolize her journey towards a hopeful future.

Although her past left permanent marks, she was now surrounded by security, love, and care. She set out on a new path, free from the cruelty of her previous life.
Once fully recovered, Iris was ready to leave the veterinary hospital. She found a loving home where she was introduced to comfort she had never known—soft bedding, toys, and continued affection.
Witnessing Iris bask in her new life, her eyes alight with joy and assurance that she was safe and will never face abuse again, was uplifting. Iris finally received the love she had long been denied, embracing the happiness every dog deserves.
Her journey from suffering to safety is an inspiring testament to resilience and the transformative power of care and compassion.
