In Kenya, the relentless drought continues to present daily obstacles. Among these, an unexpected event recently unfolded, catching everyone off guard.

Without warning, a fully grown elephant emerged from the bushes, bringing relief as it became clear that the calf’s mother had returned to claim her baby. However, she appeared unsettled by the presence of people near her calf.

The team quickly took cover as the mother hurried to her calf’s side, accompanied by a younger elephant, likely the calf’s older sibling. Fortunately, the treatments had begun to work, and the calf showed signs of recovery.

With gentle encouragement from her mother, the calf stood up. Moments later, the small family disappeared into the wilderness, leaving the scene.

This incident highlighted the remarkable effectiveness of hydration drips in reviving dehydrated elephants and restoring their strength.

Unfortunately, many calves are abandoned by their mothers when they become too weak, missing out on this crucial recovery process. However, the mother remained faithfully by her baby’s side in this case.

Dr. Mijele, a veterinarian from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS), expressed hope that the hydration drips gave the calf the boost she needed. Although still fragile, the calf demonstrated signs of resilience.
