A heartwarming reunion took place at the Elephant Nature Park, a rescue and rehabilitation center in Thailand, where a mother and her daughter elephant were joyfully reunited after being separated for nearly three years due to the tourism industry.
The touching moment, captured on video, underscores the strong emotional bonds elephants share.
MeBai, a female Asian elephant, was only three years old when she was taken from her mother, Mae Yui, who was just a year and a half old.

For almost three years, MeBai was forced to carry tourists in Thailand, a tough life that severely impacted her health.
She began losing weight, and her health deteriorated, leading her owner to transfer her to the “Pampers a Pachyderm” program at the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai Province.

Sangduen “Lek” Chailert, the founder of the Elephant Nature Park, described in a blog post how MeBai arrived at the sanctuary feeling nervous and weak.
“We focused on giving her proper care and started searching for her mother to find out what had happened to her,” Chailert wrote.

The search led Chailert to discover that Mae Yui was working at a different tourist camp more than 60 miles away.
After arranging a reunion with the camp’s owner, a team of caretakers took MeBai on a four-day journey to be reunited with her mother.
The reunion, captured on camera, showed the elephants tenderly touching each other with their trunks and flapping their ears in visible joy.

Although the initial meeting was tense, with keepers worried the elephants might become distressed if separated again, the moment highlighted their deep bond.
Mae Yui and MeBai will remain at the sanctuary as they undergo rehabilitation and eventually return to their natural habitat.
The Elephant Nature Park aims to prepare them for a future in the wild where they can live freely once more.
