Shepherd, a young dog, was found in a dire state after being critically malnourished, severely dehydrated, and suffering from mange. Lying helplessly for almost 12 hours, his organs were starting to fail.
Fortunately, members of the Humane Rescue Alliance came to his rescue and hurried him to a nearby hospital. His condition was extremely severe, and he frequently collapsed, leaving little hope for recovery.
Remarkably, Shepherd defied expectations and made it through the crucial first week of intensive care, gradually showing signs of recovery.
Now residing with foster caregiver Kim O’Keefe in Burke, Virginia, Shepherd is on the road to recovery. Although saddened by his past experiences, Kim finds inspiration in his resilience and fighting spirit.
“It’s unimaginable that someone left a dog to suffer like this,” remarked Kim. “But even after all he’s been through, he’s still full of love and trust.”
Shepherd is not yet ready for adoption, but his strength grows by the day. His recovery journey has been truly extraordinary.
In parallel, the Humane Rescue Alliance is collaborating with local authorities to track down the individual responsible for abandoning Shepherd so close to a shelter that could have saved him much earlier.
