Suzette Hall has always had a special place in her heart for dogs. Following the passing of her son, Logan, she turned her passion into a purpose by founding Logan’s Legacy 29, a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need.
When Suzette’s friend Nanette informed her about a stray dog wandering near her workplace, Suzette knew she had to act quickly. The dog, a Shepherd mix later named Loy, had previously lived in a nearby apartment building with his owner. Tragically, a fire destroyed the building, and the dog’s owner could not be found, leaving Loy homeless and searching for a safe haven.

Suzette’s connection with this particular breed, coupled with Loy’s dire situation, spurred her into immediate action. Arriving at the scene, she quickly realized the rescue would be challenging. Without his home and owner, Loy was understandably frightened and wary.
Suzette shared on Facebook, “We don’t know what happened to his owner. The poor baby was so sad and lonely, completely petrified.” Despite the challenges, Suzette and Nanette were determined to help Loy, patiently following him in hopes of finding the right moment to rescue him.
Loy’s days were spent hiding, with few sightings. On occasion, he ventured onto the road, narrowly avoiding cars. A breakthrough came when they discovered Loy had been finding food at a cat feeding station. “The poor baby was so hungry, he went to the cat feeding station for food. The cats scared him,” Suzette wrote.

After an unsuccessful rescue attempt, Loy returned to the remnants of his burnt home. To him, it was the familiar place he longed for, even in its ruin. Suzette noted this heartbreaking pattern: “This sweet boy kept going back to the only home he ever knew, back to the fire.”
Determined to save Loy, Suzette and Nanette decided to wait, despite the grim setting. Their perseverance was rewarded. One morning, Suzette arrived early and noticed Loy moving anxiously through the ashes of his former home. She set a humane trap and stepped back, hopeful for success.
A bark soon confirmed their triumph. Though initially very distressed, Loy gradually calmed with Suzette and Nanette’s reassurance. After Loy’s capture, they took him to a veterinary clinic where he was declared to be in good health.

Motivated to secure Loy’s future, Suzette quickly found him a loving foster home. Loy, still healing from the trauma of his loss, is now on a path to recovery, thanks to the care of his foster family. Suzette felt particularly connected to Loy’s rescue because of her late son, who had a soft spot for Shepherds. This mission was more than just a rescue; it was a tribute to Logan.
“Rescued in loving memory of my angel,” Suzette concluded, honoring the son who inspired her mission to save dogs.
